Global Issues and the East-West Cooperation

Various global issues can be resolved though mutual cooperation

Will War against Terror End?

First World War commenced in 1914 and ended after five years, Second World War covered almost six years from 1939 to 1945. Besides of losses to material both the wars have proven disaster to the mankind. The Great War (First World War) began as a clash of 20th century technology and 19th century tactics. In this war 40 million casualties resulted which include approximately 20 million military and civilian deaths. The Second World War was humanity's deadliest war and also known as war of revenge caused tens of millions of deaths. President Franklin D. Roosevelt of the most civilized claimant nation (American) dropped two Atomic Bombs over the innocent people of Nagasaki and Hiroshima on August 6 and 9, 1945 and forced the Japanese to surrender by August 14, 1945. By giving such a huge loss to human being US was proudly able to argue that she won the war. Now in 20 th century another American President (Bush) again brought and dragged the world at a point which would be remember as another future catastrophe of the universe. The war on terror will definitely be accounted for in his credit in the future history. Despite various differences, there are number of similarities in three wars, for example, the major characters are almost same i.e. US, British and other European countries those were also allies during WW II. The war against terror was instigated by Washington in 2001 with the aim of elimination Al - Qaeda militants but twisted into religion war due to the negative propaganda of western media against Islam. Both the world wars culminated within six years or so but war against terror has taken more than seven years and still continues like never-ending way. The question comes in the minds that will this war going to be culminated or lead to ultimate destruction of the world. Let’s hope that world ruling powers should get together and decide to save the world instead pushing it into anarchy just for the sake of their individual gains.

Obama to Revive Bush Policies

On November 8, 2008 newly elected US President Barack Obama in a telephonic conversation with President Zardari offered to play role in revival of Depleting Economic condition and fortifying the bilateral relations of two countries. He also said that he looked forward to further improve mutual relations and will provide full support for Democracy to Pakistan being their important ally. President Zardari while reciprocating his sentiments expressed the hope for better and improved relations between the two countries in coming days. Though Pakistan supported US out rightly in war against terror during Musharraf regime but even then relations between Washington and Islamabad remained tense because of US double standards policy in South Asia. Obama always remained prominent in making reckless statements in relation to Pakistan, Arab and Iran issues. During his campaign, he time and again categorically threatened to bomb Pakistan in case of its failure to act against Al-Qaeda militants. Though, later on slightly changed his revealed statement after facing the terrible critics of opponents John McCain and Mrs. Bill Clinton. Similar criticism has also been reflected in his part towards Russia and China too. The extreme thinking and ideas of Obama in relation to Islamic states, Russia, China and Korea if going to be translated into real policies will certainly push the world into disaster. Obama has the chance of changing foreign policies which could be helpful in establishment of peace in his country as well as world over, failing which world might face nuclear war and collapse of single super power. Obama must have viewed the speeches of Muslim leaders in Inter- faith Conference held at New York from 13- 14 November 08. Saudi King Abdullah and Pakistani President Zardari stated that efforts should be made to remove the gap between the religions for the permanent peace and world security. They revealed that terrorism is the enemy of all religions and civilization, calling for a united front to combat it and promote tolerance. King Abdullah further said that history reflects conflicts over religious and cultural issues had led to intolerance, caused devastating wars and bloodshed. Obama must be familiar of recently unveiled Bush’ Plan of attacking Saudi Arabia and Syria. He must take steps to build the confidence between America and other Islamic nations while pulling his troops back to their home land.

Depleting Economic Condition need Sincere Attention

The current finical crisis has proven to be the severe one since inception of Pakistan. According to the media and State Bank reports net foreign reserves held by banks other than SBP stood at $3.20 billion, falling by more than $80 million or 2.43 percent from $3.28 billion. In the first week of October the reserves were $8.1 billion out of which $700 million had been most probably transferred to abroad illegally since SBP declared it a lost transition and $ 3.46 Billion have been spent on import payments. The trend of declining reserves brought Pakistani rupee value down to 78.50 against the US dollar, compared with 78.30. It means that current amount of reserve will only be sufficient to meet the import of another two months. The persistent deploring condition of the economy might force the government to go for fiscal emergency. On November 2, 2008 President Zardari stated that getting loan from IMF will be the last step. He has proceeded to Saudi Arabia to seek financial assistance for coming from on going economic crunch. Saudi Arabia agreed to provide hundred thousand barrels oil on daily basis and payment will be deferred till next fiscal year Saudi Arabia always helped Pakistan at the hour of need. Hope this payment of oil be made in future to Saudi Arabia on existing rates of oil and will be considered as soft loan.

Unflinching Indian Water Quest Pushing South Asia into War

The world seems standing at the brink of another world war because of failure of emerging weak role of UNO and uni-polar system. The power relations are defining the world as an ‘overruling cleavage’ of the international system. The unfair race of economic growth in terms of capturing natural resources, unequal division of wealth, global wave of organizational and state terrorism, selfish policies of super power, craving smaller sates, current financial global crunch and the collapse of the Soviet Empire are the factors which are accelerating the time so rapidly that destruction of world seem to be very nearer. The dramatic political and strategic changes of Asia related to South Asian region in latter half of the twentieth century has further deteriorated the world peace. The main characters of prevailing insecure environment and regional instability are, India, US, Afghanistan’s puppet government, America, Israel and some of European allies. The capturing of natural resources for enhancing economic growth is basically a power thirst of US and her Police Watch Man (India). According to Indian philosophy wealth obtaining and power seeking are interlinked and two sides of the same coin. The Indian unflinching quest of grabbing natural particularly water resources are seem to be putting devastating effects on her neighbours, Pakistan , Bangladesh and Nepal , thus pushing South Asian Region into war.
